I partnered with Curly Me! for their Curls with a Purpose Fashion Show. As a child I experienced unwanted hair touching by strangers and many diabolical salon appointments while growing up in Utah. Curly Me!, a local non-profit provides hair education for girls with curly hair and the community I lacked. I mobilize my artwork to celebrate natural hair and bolster young black girls' appreciation of their unique beauty. I created silk floral hair adornments customized to work in a variety of hairstyles. I hand-sewed translucent organza silk butterflies into the adornments and wrapped the clips in satin ribbon to prevent damage to delicate textured hairstyles. To commemorate the children’s walk, I arranged the donation of one hundred long-stem roses so each could have their own bouquet.
